The Bayleaf Intramuros Hotel Review

We got a one night escapade at The Bayleaf Intramuros Hotel Manila. A night of relaxation and fun!

Though I can say I’m still anxious that I left my kids at home for the first time. We had fun! Surely! But any of you been there? Below is the photo of the front view of the hotel at night.

The Bayleaf Intramuros Hotel is located inside the oldest district of Manila. it is fronting the walled city of Intramuros which was considered the seat of government, culture, religion, education, trade, commerce, and arts in Manila during the Spanish regime. The hotel is near of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, with a travel time of 30 to 45 minutes. I will be giving you the complete details of the hotel on the latter part of this post.

We just moved in to a new city and it’s been busy for the past months. Yes, we finally decided to leave our apartment for 5 years! Goodbye floods during rainy season, goodbye cleaning mud and dirty waters! But just in time when we are both (me and my husband) so drained, thinking and working hard for an improve life, my husband’s generous lady boss gifted us this treat!

I should have posted this earlier, but I was caught up with much important things to do. This get-away, became a sort of an advance anniversary gift for both of us (Our anniversary as a couple is April 8). My husband must have worked very well with her lady boss to deserved this thoughtfulness, right?

How do we get to spend our night here? Do you also believe there are people in our lives who thought more of us than we are to ourselves? I do and I am thankful for those people who do. We didn’t expect to be here not in a bit, because we are so caught up with our lives especially with the kids and work. Just in case you didn’t know, my husband works freelance in an online business. He edits videos and audios for clients. One day, my hubby’s boss says she and her friend went to The Bayleaf Intramuros in Manila and loved the placed. She is my husband’s boss for maybe almost a year or two. So she thought maybe my husband could date me there too for a dinner. How thoughtful is that? The 2 gift checks is enough for us to book a room in the hotel so we decided to spend a night there instead.

Being parents of three (3) kids with no help of a nanny, we thought, how can we escape? My parents are the only people I could think of at a time like this. But I wasn’t sure they are available. Most of the times, they may also have plans or other things they needed to do. So, I check on the calendar and ask them which day they could be available. Thank God and as always, my parents didn’t fail me. I got my dates ready for scheduling.

I contacted the hotel thru email and see if there were available rooms for the dates I have in mind. I was promptly replied back by their reservations OIC, Francis that they were available. Cutting the story short, we are reserved to accommodate a Superior room with a queen size bed which includes a buffet breakfast for two. We are so excited, we can’t wait for the weekend.

We rented a Grab car on the day of our reservation. That was luck, as we can’t book a taxi earlier. Thought we won’t get there in time, thanks to a no traffic day and we came to the hotel in less time. Moving forward, we were welcome at the hotel with smiles as we approach the concierge. We confirmed our reservation and they give us the key to our room. Please see below pictures for more details of our night in The Bayleaf Intramuros Hotel.

The key card we have also has the password to the WiFi internet, so convenient. It will also be the key to the electricity of your room so it is important that you have it while booked in the hotel especially when you need to go out of your room.

Keycard dock
Key card dock and the light switches of our room.

It is strictly no smoking on the rooms. See the sign? I’m glad my husband doesn’t smoke anymore, but he vapes, so there’s no problem about that. Air-con is not remote controlled, so you can see the dial knob there, where we adjust the coldness of our room. I’m not complaining because it doesn’t affect the coldness, it is just inconvenient to get up when it became too cold already and you wanted to lower the temperature.

The bayleaf hotel keycard1
This is where you need to rest your key card when you are inside your room in the hotel.

Without the key card in this dock, you have no electricity too. No lights, no air-con. This is also the key to your room.

This is where we are on the hotel building.

I love this feature in every hotel. You know where you are and where the other places are. This is very helpful to those people who don’t socialize much and is too shy to ask anyone the whereto of a place.

The bayleaf hotel front Bath
Entrance of the bath. Clean bathroom mirror and sink, check!

Soon as we unpacked and change our clothes I started to take pictures. Yes, I take pictures on the bathroom first. I need to check if it is clean. The OC-ness in me is kicking in.

The bath soap, cute isn’t it?

I love the capiz holder, must be expensive and handmade. The soap dish is also cute!

The hair dryer, check!

I don’t really use a hair dryer but this is nice to have on your room if you don’t want your hair dripping with water when you go out.

See through shower
I love this see through shower! And it’s clean when we get there, so check!

I want a see through shower like this on my own house too! It’s easy to see if it’s getting dirty and time to clean. It’s surprisingly spacious, I love it!

Their rain shower is also nice, and it has hot and cold features too.

Clean Bathroom CR, check!

Bathroom CR is clean, one thing I didn’t like is that the bidet water leaks when you use it. I didn’t bother to have it repaired because we will only be there for a night. We are not going to use it that much, but I hope they should have checked it before we get in.

The bayleaf hotel complimentary coffee and water
Our complimentary water and coffee.

Our complimentary drinks from the hotel. No water in the heater, we used our mineral bottle for our coffee. Those donuts were supposed to be our breakfast while we travel. It ended up in our room best paired with the complimentary coffee of the hotel.

the Bayleaf hotel mini ref
Mini ref on our room.

Our room also has a mini ref, which they call “mini bar” in their website but there’s nothing in there. Those beers I think we ordered together with our dinner.

The bayleaf hotel bed
Nice arrangement of the bed sheets.

I love that their room has a lot of mirrors, I think that what it makes it look more spacious than it actually was. Their Superior room is around 23 sqm as the website says. I’m not sure if the bathroom is included in that measurement. The pillows are nice soft but firm and smells nice. The bed sheets are comfy and all there waiting for you to tuck in.

This is the full size window where you can view the walls of Intramuros.

There’s also a bedside table which can be useful if you rare a traveler who brings work with you on hotels. You can put your laptop in there and work comfortably with the cushion chair.

The famous wall of Intramuros from our hotel room window.

I capture this photo in our hotel room window. I can still see the canons. Those people you see in there are mostly students who are doing their practice dance or just killing time before they go home. Some people are running and exercising.

List of menus we could order in the hotel. Page 2.

Here is the menu list we can order for room service. Since my hubby doesn’t want to go out and eat, so he can spend a lot of time sleeping, we just ordered room service for our dinner. There are lots to choose from but since the Bayleaf hotel is one of the first rate boutique hotels in the Philippines, the prices with their menu goes with it. Hehehe, kidding aside, prices this high are for elite people only. To think a 12 peso bottle of water outside is 80 pesos in their menu. A 20 pesos can of soda outside is a 100 pesos in their menu. We ended up getting 1 soda, 2 bottled water (because the complimentary water were already use to make our coffee) and a glass of wine, which cost a bottle of cheap wine sold in malls.

The bayleaf hotel menus
Our menu before serving.

This is how are menu came to our room before serving, all wrapped up in foil. The bell boy was kind enough and wants to serve it to us by starting to take each foil. I stopped and  told him that we are no yet going to eat so he can leave it like that. They were polite when they came in and smile at us.

the bayleaf menu1
Our food choices.

For dinner, we chose Classic Beef Kare-kare, fresh Caesar salad, and Ensemada pudding for our dessert. The kare-kare is really good and we both enjoy eating it. The sauce is on point and the bagoong goes really well with it. It’s too much for the two of us so we have some spare for the second round of eating when we get hungry. Rice is not included so we ordered separate rice for it. The caesar salad could be nice if only the bacon were not too crunchy, I mean way too crunchy it hurts my gums. The Ensemada pudding is too thick, but my husband love mangoes so it’s ok with him.

the bayleaf hotel glass of wine
The glass of wine we ordered.

This is their House wine by the glass, we chose red wine. For P285, and it is only this much wine in the glass. The taste is strong, but not sweet. Me and my husband used to drinking wine we bought in malls. We both love sweet red wine, so that’s why we are not happy with what we ordered.

We also had cable TV, but we can’t find a nice movie to watch plus the TV is too small to watch at a distance. See below to get what I mean.

The bayleaf complimentary breakfast
Our breakfast meal.

Before leaving the hotel, we have our buffet breakfast at their 9spoons restaurant at the rooptop. We didn’t have the chance to go there at night. I heard it turns your dinner into a romantic evening because of the live music entertainment while you are having a la carte dinner.

Overall, the night we spend there is quite an experienced to both of us. We slept well, the temperature is nice and the bed is cozy and spacious for just the two of us. Eat and drink well too! We definitely be doing this again.

I believed we both needed this rest even just for a day. After being married for almost 11 years, this is the first time we go out alone, just the two of us. Me and my husband are not really fond of going out much. Ever since we became couple, we only had a few trips together alone. A lot of the times, we go out with relatives and kids. So this is really exciting for us. And we both think it couldn’t happen if it wasn’t for his client’s thoughtfulness in giving us this opportunity to spend time together in this lovely way.

We were both hoping to do this every year, keeping our fingers crossed! Whereto next year? Keep dropping by for another hotel review soon!

You would probably be wondering why it is 2nd month already. I haven’t posted the first one here because I wanted it materialized already. It’s because it’s been long overdue. Below is Princess P as a necklace, but the winner chose her to be a key chain. I am hoping she could reach the USA safe and sound, and not smashed! My giveaway is open WORLDWIDE and I send my packages through postal service. It would take awhile to reach Ms. Lynda but I know Princess P could make it! You will be missed Princess P!

Going back, my first giveaway was held last January for the whole month of it and I announced the winner on first week of February. I was inspired by those Matryoshka dolls I’ve seen on Pinterest and decided to make. Never had a chance to have a real one too and so, finally I made one for myself. Oops, actually, the new pieces will not be for me, but for the giveaway. Yay! Winners will have 1 each of this Lily Matryoshka, handmade and designed by me. Crochet 101: How to make Double Crochet Stitch

Double Crochet Stitch (DC) –  is another common stitch used in crochet in which height is double of that single crochet stitches. Stitches made with double crochet are best for wearable like shawls, home decors, afghans and many more. The term might be different when you are in the UK. Double crochet in US is called Treble crochet in the UK as Single crochet in the US is double crochet in the UK. So, you may want to take a note of that when you read crochet patterns. Know if the terms are in US or UK format.

You can also combine stitches with double crochet to make interesting patterns. One example is a shell stitch which is made by combining a couple of double crochets in a single stitch. Double crochet stitches are also use in Star Stitch which is one of my favorite stitches in crochet.

Lazada Philippines

To make a Double Crochet Stitch,

  1. Hold your yarn as you used to and make a slip knot.
  2. Make your chains as many as needed. Add 3 more for the turning chain.
  3. Yarn over and insert your hook in one side of the chain on the 4th chain.
  4. With 3 loops on the hook, yarn over again and pull through first two loops.
  5. With 2 loops on the hook, yarn over again and pull through all loops on the hook.
  6. To start the next DC stitch, follow steps 4 to 5 after yarning over once.

To Crochet Double Stitch in Rows:

  1. Ch 3, then turn. This will count as the 1st DC stitch of your next row. yarn over and insert your hook on the 2 double crochet stitch of the previous row.
  2. Yarn over, and insert your hook on the 2nd stitch, and make sure you only insert it on the top 2 loops of the stitch.
  3. Follow steps 4-6 on how to make double crochet stitch above.

You can watch this video to know how to make DC stitches:

Shop online in the US for Philippines residents

Do you ever want to shop online but it is in the US and you have no relatives to buy and send them for you here in the Philippines?

Hate waiting for your package from the US to arrive because it takes more than a month?

How about, feeling downhearted because the shipping costs will drain your wallet?

I think I might have a solution for you!

Me and my hubby has been shopping online since 2009 if I remember it correctly. I have also been asked many times by relatives and friends how I do it. So I help some of them to do the same. There are other ways to shop online in the US and this is just one way to do so. So far, all items that I ordered reached me safe and sound.

In this post, I will give you the steps on how to use Johnny Air Retail Padala service to shop online in the US. But before you shop, make sure you have a credit card (at least master card) or a Paypal account that you can use in buying online for items that you want or else, how can you buy right? I know a lot of people have a bad experience in credit cards. It is OK to have one just as long as you know how to control yourself in using it. And always use it wisely. In my opinion otherwise, I think Paypal is the safest way to use though in shopping online, since they offer refund just in case your seller is proven fraud or a scam. If you have it, then you are good to shop! However, if you plan shopping on Amazon, Paypal is not an option for payment as of now.

Disclaimer: This is in not sponsored by or related to any of the employees of Johnny Air. I only want to share how to use their service because it helps me and I want to help others too.

Here’s a step by step on how to shop online in the US:

  1. Browse online through the US websites that you like to shop or buy something to.
  2. Choose your items to buy and when you reach checkout, fill in the fields with the information below. Remember that we are going to use JAC’s US office address for shipping, and they will be the one to ship the items to you in the Philippines.

(Your full name) (CC) c/o Analyn D.
Johnny Air Retail
6904 Roosevelt Ave.
Woodside, NY 11377
Tel No.: (718) 672-7080

3. Write your full name on the shipping address and CC your contact person in JAC New York office, so he/she will be the one to look after your package coming from your seller. And also the one that will process the shipping from the US to the Philippines. JAC has other contacts you can also use, but I am used to Analyn and is coordinating with her ever since. You can check here for other option. See example below.

Shop Online
This is an example of where you will be ask to put JAC NY office address for the shipping of your order.
    4. Next, you can give Analyn or any contact you chose a heads up that you shop online and address your package in their office and write their name as CC. Likewise, forward the message to your contact when you receive a confirmation email/update from the seller. It is also better to give them the tracking number of your package so they can monitor. This will also makes them ship your package without delay. As soon as they get, they could ship it ahead to the Philipines. You will also need to mention if you’re going to pick-up your package in their office in SM Megamall or Makati. You can also opt to have it delivered to your house COD, just provide your contact details.
This is an example of an email from the seller informing you of the shipment of your order with the tracking number.
    5. Lastly, wait for your package to arrive in the Philippines. Usually takes 5-10 days to arrive from the US. The duration will depend on how long your seller sends your package to JAC NY. In my case, it is usually 3-5 days before my package reach Woodside office depending on the availability of the item you ordered. So, roughly around 8-15 days or less waiting. Sometimes, I only wait for a week Not bad if it’s direct from the US seller to the Philippines who will probably use postal service or third party courier. Which normally takes more than a month to arrive. Plus the worry if your item will ever reach you at all. I don’t mean to loose your faith in our postal service

As soon as your package arrive, someone in JAC (PH) will contact you through call or SMS to confirm of it’s arrival. In my case, when I instructed Analyn (my contact in the US) to have it shipped to SM Megamall so I can pick it up, it is Paciano who contacted me. Along with the confirmation on their text, they will also let you know how much you should be paying for the service. They usually charge $5 shipping/handling fee from US to PH, plus the volumetric fee of the package (min of 2lbs), plus the VAT (if paid in the Philippines). This is all in USD and will be converted into Philippine peso on the day it arrives (foreign currency rate of the day). Conversion is usually a little higher than what you can see on the internet. I am not sure how they get it, but I remember it is always a little higher. So, to save you from being disappointed, always convert $1 to Php 50.00. In this way, you will know, it is more or less than what you computed. But I tell you, this is not bad at all.

BTW, I believed volumetric fee will only be charge if your package is over sized and it is rate by package dimension. The chargeable weight is always actual versus volume weight, whichever is higher. So if you item is heavy even if it is small, they will use the actual weight than the volume weight. Something to remind you when shopping. As for the volumetric fee of the package, it is computed LxWxH in inches divided by 166. The multiplier depends on the type of item you shop online. You can find the updated rates here. When you buy electronic items, they are also adding charge to that. I think they call it surcharge, which I think is some sort of an insurance for your electronic items. The fee depends also on what type of electronic you buy, around $15 to $30 additional per piece. Buying luxury items like couture bags and clothing has also additional fees if it reaches the value of $500 or more. And they require insurance for items $1000 or more in value which is 5% of the value of the item.

Well, there are the steps. I hope I did cover as much as I can to help. But if there’s anything you wanted to clarify or ask, you can comment down below or send me a message in any of my social medias, or through our contact page. And I would also love to hear success shopping story from all of you who found this article and try what I did. I think I will make another post on another way you can buy something in the US other than using JAC services, so I hope you come back once in awhile or subscribe on my website so you won’t miss a thing.

Thank you and have a lovely shopping, rather, lovely day!

My kids try the Pie Face Game

Have you heard of a Pie Face game?

It’s been trending on YouTube and my kids are all enjoying watching all the Pie face challenges. My sister who is fond of shopping for toys bought one to be use for our Christmas Party. We all have fun, well, the older ones because the kids didn’t have their chance ’til after the party. And because they’ve waited their time to use it. Me and my husband filmed it and share the experience with you.

There’s a lot of Pie Face Game kit that you can bought out there now, but the original one is by Hasbro. The one that my sister got isn’t from the same company, but works the same. This hilarious and suspense filled game with get anyone’s face splatted randomly.

Pie Face Game

The Pie Face Game includes:

  • pie thrower
  • 1 throwing arm with sponge
  • 2 handles
  • chin rest
  • splash guard mask
  • spinner

How to play Pie Face Game:

  • Players should load the arm with whipped cream (this is not included in he kit) or in our case a little baby powder on the included sponge.
  • First player should spin on the wheel how many turns they should turn the handle.
  • They then take turns sliding their heads through the mask turning the handle the number of times indicated on the spinner.
  • The tension on the arm builds, and the pie-throwing arm could go off at any moment.
  • The player score a point every time they turn the handle without getting splatted

Overall, we had great fun using this product. The suspense of who’s going to be splatted by the hand is the absolute fun about it. It’ is easy to use, easy to build and cost fairly cheap (at least according to my sister, hehe). If you want one, I have provided a link below the video so you can enjoy playing it too!

Watch my kids video ’til the end to see who’s got the splattin’! Don’t forget to like and subscribe!

Amigurumi Contest Update

As you all know I recently joined an amigurumi contest held by Amigurumipatterns. I can say that it has been an experienced for me to have been a part of this contest. Certainly not my last but would be the first of the many that I will also braved to join. Maybe the next time I won’t be as nervous.  I am looking forward to this yearly event and will work harder the next time.

nedd the nosferatu

amigurumi santa muerte

There are more than 400 entries and all are stunning and carefully made. There are lot of contestants from around the world and all have their unique creations that you cannot kick out of the door. I have my own bet that I did vote. And luckily, one of them got in! Voting was held from Dec.3 – 10, 2016. That was ample enough time to campaign and ask your friends to vote for your entries. i do not have much friends, but I still have people who are willing to support and help me all the way, of course, my ever loyal family! Haha! Am I feeling bitter? Errmmm, maybe a little yes. Some of the competitors are well-known already and in fact has a lot of followers over their social medias. Some are previous contest participants/winners too. But no offense to them, they all worked their butt-off and of course, loving the fun of joining in contests like this. So again, thank you for all those who voted for me and see the potential in what I do. I really appreciate your effort in doing so. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

The winners are:

@diyfluffies for “Mr. Blue” which is living up to his name. Not only that he is blue, he also loves games!

Mr Blue
photo grabbed from DIYF’s IG

@littleaquagirl for her “Little Ella in her Monster Suit”,  which think she is rather scary in her monster suit. But we can all agree that she is not succeeding right? This entry is one of my bet since the beginning and even if I don’t win, it is enough for me that one of my bets got it. So cute isn’t it?

Little Ella

Both DIY fluffies and LittleAquaGirl are runners up. These two has only a difference of 2 votes! Yes, so close! 736 for LAG and 734 for DIYF. And of the 9000 people who voted for their favorites, 851 votes goes to….

…By Bat for his/her “Solomon Sockeater”, he is a gray monster with orange nails and white fangs and humongous round eyes! I don’t think the designer is on Instagram but nevertheless, his monster is the man!

Solomon SockEater

Congratulations to all the winners! Hoping they could share the patterns to us! haha! No, just kidding. Probably, the pattern would sell, if they share it. To see other entries and the result of the voting, you can visit it here.

And thank you also for these kind and lovely sponsors:  Inside CrochetFurls FiberartsBarruntando ceramicsStylecraft yarns, Situer safety eyes, Clover and Hobium. And even if I didn’t win the books that I am excited about, I know someday I could have them. And even if I don’t I know I could get something better.

Last but not the least, thank you for all the support I get and for those who voted Nedd and Santa Muerte. You truly are a blessing. Thanks for believing in me and in them. Again, from our heart, we thank you!

Amigurumi Design Contest!

I recently joined an amigurumi contest held by Amigurumipatterns. I braved myself to join even if I know there are lots of entry that will be better than mine. Yes, I am nervous! This is the first ever contest that I designed a doll. Don’t get me wrong, I know mine is special too as those who send their amigurumi designs. We have different techniques and ideas, and each is unique and beautiful in every way.

This amigurumi designs contest is held yearly with a different theme. They started in 2013 with the theme, “Amigurumi Animals at Work”. It was supported by a lot of crochet amigurumi fans and so they continue to do this every year. This year’s theme is “Monsters!” . Scarily cute and sweet at heart.

amigurumi design contest

The rules to join are really simple. The entry should be a crochet amigurumi, this is because their site is solely for crochet amigurumi. The entries should be consistent with the theme and it should be an original work. When they say original, it should not be trademarked. Or if your pattern is taken from any other existing source but you just change the color or lessen the rows of stitches of that deisgn, it could definitely disqualify your entry.  You should at least have 3 pictures to submit, the creepier photo the better. Last submission of entries will be on Dec. 2, 2016 and voting starts on Dec 3, 2016 by the audience of Amigurumipatterns. You can submit as many designs as you want. Submitting entry to the contest is absolutely FREE!

I submitted two (2) entries for the contest. And I’ve crossed fingers both on my hands and feet, that I could at least have one in! Luckily, they were both accepted and now the moment of truth is nearing. Haha! Afraid again that it might not be good enough of an entry, and people wouldn’t love it. All the luck in the world come to me at once! Haha!

There will be three (3) winners, who will blessed generously with humongous prizes. These prizes will be coming from these kind and lovely sponsors:  Inside CrochetFurls FiberartsBarruntando ceramicsStylecraft yarns, Situer safety eyes, Clover and Hobium. Any crocheter/amigurumi designers like me would be tempted to join if you see the prizes they are offering just to share your talents. What I love and most excited about in all those prizes is the set of books, where they all compiled top-notch amigurumi designs from all over the world! Not cool enough? It’s not just a set, it’s a collection! Which, I don’t think I can afford anytime soon. Having the chance to win it, I couldn’t pass on it.

The first entry I submitted is a pain for me. I crochet day and night to finished it. Why is it a pain? I used black yarn to most of it. And we all know, black yarns or anything dark is a pain to crochet. Though it may be as I told it is, I am quite happy with how it turned out to be. Presenting “Nedd the Nosferatu”.

nedd the nosferatu

Nedd is surely a creepy one. He is a few hundred years old vampire. He may look dangerous and out of this world but he is real sweet and adorable. Need not be afraid of him because he don’t drink blood of innocent people. He ordered his food on blood banks. Like any other vampire, he is afraid of the sun, and can turn into bat when he wanted to. He has also the ability to mind control. Looking scary as he is, he has a high passion on things cute and small.

I made him with mercerized cotton in colors Black and White. Crochet hook size is 1.1 mm all throughout the process. He stands 15 cm and approx. 6-7 cm in width. Every detail is crocheted, even his eyebrows that always on fleek!

Meet “Santa Muerte”, my second entry. I made her before Nedd, but submitted Nedd firstbecause I wasn’t exactly sure how to dress her. It was inspired by a clay artist that I followed on IG for the longest time I could remember. He made cute polymer clay chibis under the IG name ClaywithFern, a very talented young artist. Recently before halloween, he made these little sugar skulls head that is so cute, and so this design by me is made.

amigurumi santa muerte

Santa Muerte means Holy Death. She has an extraordinary ability to deliver her devotees in the afterlife protected, safe, and healed. In her daily life, she can blend in well in the community. Always observing. This is her true form. She can be what she want and looks what she likes. She is best at making friends, and keeping them.

I made her with fingering acrylic yarns in various colors. Hook size is 2.0 mm (which breaks on the process before I could complete it). She stands approximately 8 inches tall and approx. 4 inches in width. Every detail is crocheted and embroidered. Her dress is 2 piece, backless top and a skirt. I love her curls, don’t you?

A few more days left and the voting begins. I will be grateful for all your support and love for my two entries. For now, please enjoy the gallery below to see them better. I hope you could extend just a few of your time on that day, to vote for them. Winning on this contest would mean so much to me, to give me more reasons to share and be inspired to do things I thought I couldn’t. Thank you all so much in advance! And good luck to all who joined!

Crochet 101: How to make DC3Tog Cluster

Crochet 101: How to make Double Crochet 3 Stitch Together Cluster or DC3Tog

Double Crochet 3 Together Stitch (DC3Tog) – is a decorative cluster stitch which is very useful to most of crochet projects. It yields a triangular cluster which which creates a really nice texture. It is mostly used in making squares. It’s textured look make it more appealing. Made up of 3 incomplete double crochet stitches bind together in one stitch.

To make a DC3Tog,

1. Chain 4, SL ST to the first CH to form a ring. You could also use a magic ring on this part.

tiny-sunflower-square_1
tiny-sunflower-square_2

2. CH1, make SC stitches on the ring. How many depends on what your pattern calls for. SL ST on the first SC to close. I made SCx8.

tiny-sunflower-square_3

3. CH3 (this count as 1 DC). Yarn over then insert your hook on the same stitch. Yarn over, pull through first 2 loops on your hook. You got 2 loops on your hook at this point. This is the first incomplete DC stitch. (2nd DC for the DC3Tog counting the Ch3)

tiny-sunflower-square_4
tiny-sunflower-square_5

4. Yarn over again, insert on the same stitch. Yarn over and pull through first 2 loops. 3 loops on your hook and this one is the 2nd incomplete DC stitch. (3rd DC for the DC3Tog).

tiny-sunflower-square_6

5. Yarn over again and hook through all 3 loops on the hook.

tiny-sunflower-square_7

6. Yarn over and start Step 3 again on the next stitch. Since I have 8 SC, I repeated 7 more times to complete the round. I will have 8 DC3Tog cluster stitches.

tiny-sunflower-square_8

Note that on the next DC3Tog cluster, the Ch3 will not count as your first DC, you will need to make 3 incomplete DC’s. You should have 4 loops on your hook before closing the DC3Tog cluster.

No Sew Crochet Rose Applique

I have always been fascinated with flowers! Though I am not a girly type, there is this feeling in me that tickles when I see one. Rose is one of the many beautiful flowers ever existed. It is known to symbolized unending love. Some say white roses is a symbol of purity and honesty. So when a guy who is courting you gives you a bunch, they say it means, he has good intentions for you and really like you.

In a crochet world, there are many ways to make a flower. There are lot of tutorials to make them, but one thing is bugging me because, most tutorials around needs to roll the piece and sew it to make it into a flower. As much as others hated to weave in ends, sewing is one of the thing we don’t always wanna do on crochet. On this post, I would like to share to you a no sew crochet rose applique.

Materials needed:

  • Cotton or acrylic yarns or any yarn of your choice. Any weight will do, but the size of the crochet rose flower will depend on it. In this post, I use fingering weight mercerized cotton yarn in multi-color pattern.
  • Crochet hook. I use Japan IMIA hook No. 7 or 0.95 mm
  • Scissor

Here are the stitches I use: (in English crochet terms)

  • MR for Magic Ring
  • CH for Chain
  • SC for Single Crochet Stitch. If you’re a beginner, here is a helpful tutorial on how to make single crochet stitches
  • DC for Double crochet
  • FO for Fasten Off
  • SK for Skip
  • ST for Stitch / STS  for Stitches

PATTERN for No Sew Crochet Rose Applique:

  • R1: SC in a MR, (CH3, SC) 3x. You will now have 3 Ch3 spaces.

no-sew-rose_r1

  • R2: [(CH3, SC)2x on the next Ch3 spaces, (CH3, SC) on the next stitch] around. You will now have 9 CH3 spaces. Pull the MR to close the gap.

no-sew-rose_r2

  • R3: (CH3, SC) on each of the CH3 spaces. You will now have 9 CH3 spaces.

no-sew-rose_r3

  • R4: CH3, then turn. (DC, CH2, 2xDC) on the next CH3 spaces, (2xDC, Ch2, 2xDC) on the next 8 CH3 spaces, 2xDC on the next ST, CH2

no-sew-rose_r4

  • R5: Note that you will work on the back (Right Side) of the piece and notice the CH spaces from the previous round. Do the following STS on those CH3 spaces.

(2xDC, Ch2, 2xDC) around until all Ch3 spaces are used

You will also notice that it is divided into 2 by the SC STS. Do the 2nd “2xDC” on the other half of the CH3 spaces. Since we already have 2xDC and Ch2 on the last round, 2xDC on the same CH3 spaces for the first CH3 spaces.

You are working towards the center on this part. I managed to make 16 sets of (2xDC, Ch2, 2xDC) on this round.

no-sew-rose_r5

This is the result of R5 after completing the whole round. Looking good for a flower already right? We will make it prettier on the next rounds.

no-sew-rose_r6

  • R6: Ch2, turn. 4xDc on the next Ch2 spaces. Sk2 STS, SC on the next space, SK2 STS, [4xDc on the next CH2 space, Sk2 STS, SC on the next Space, SK2 STS] 7x

no-sew-rose_r6a

  • R7: [5xDc on the next CH2 space, Sk2 STS, SC on the next Space, SK2 STS] 8x
  • R8: [6xDc on the next CH2 space, Sk2 STS, SC on the next Space, SK2 STS] 9x, SK2 STS, Sc on the next, 6xDC on the last Ch2 spaces, SL ST on the SC ST parallel to the last petal.

no-sew-rose_r8

FO and weave in ends. You’re No sew Crochet Rose Applique Flower is finished!

no-sew-rose

And there she is, your lovely no sew crochet rose applique is finished! I can see the many potential of this flower on many crochet projects. A headband added bling, a brooch or a pin, it could be a part of a bag or a scarf. Anything you can think of which calls for a crochet rose flower design in it. I even use it as a hat for my dress-up doll which I am working on a pattern to share to you to soon!

Assembly:

sackboy_parts-assembly
How to assemble sackboy parts.

Sew the head to the body. Use pin needles to position the other parts of the sackboy figure. It will also help in sewing by keeping it in place. Always hide the tails inside the body and cut the excess yarn.

Sew the zipper pull just under the chin of the head. Embroider the details for the lips (I use a little of the black yarn in fingering weight size too) and zipper pattern on the body (silver gray yarn).  Use the light brown yarn for the details on the head, arms and legs to make it look like it’s been stitch attached to the body just like the original character.
